If you grew up in a congregation with a liturgical form of worship, it may take a while to adjust to our services because we are less formal. But while God honors a variety of worship forms, we feel comfortable with less ceremony. Old hymns are balanced with new choruses. Inspiration is offered through special music, Scripture readings, words of encouragement, and sometimes, personal testimonies. These elements may change each week. It keeps the worship service vital and fresh for us.
On the other hand, if you grew up in a church with a freer form of worship, it also may take a while to adjust to our practices. We observe the Biblical elements of worship: communion, preaching the Word, fellowship, prayer and singing. Though their order in the service may change and manner of presentation may vary, we include them all every Sunday. It keeps our services orderly, focused on the Lord and, we believe, more worshipful.
We do not have a dress code. You don't need to have fancy or expensive clothes. As a matter of fact, the Bible warns against being too showy, but tells us simply to dress modestly. You will find that people in our church dress in a variety of styles. Remember, it is the Lord we want to impress, not other people; and the Lord looks on our heart, not our outward appearance.
There is something inspirational about meeting together in church, where we share our faith with others. This gives us the opportunity to praise the Lord together for all He has done for us. This also provides a great opportunity to invite others to come to church with us. In the worship assembly you can attend without the fear of being singled out. You can enjoy the music, the preaching of God's Word and remain uninvolved for a while, if you choose.
If you are not very familiar with the message of the Bible or the nature of the church, I just invite you to keep attending for a while. There will be no pressure on you to join or participate until you are ready. Feel free to ask questions, or attend Bible School class, or come to the Wednesday night Bible class. We are simply trying to introduce you to Jesus Christ and to help you become more familiar with the Bible.Home »
